Women Powered by Withings

As we approach the 50th Boston 10K for Women, our sponsor Withings will recognize 10 amazing athletes that reflect the courage, determination, and passion of our running community. We hope this ongoing blog series will introduce some new and familiar faces, and inspire you on your 10K journey.

Annie running in the Boston MarathonAnnie Paredes didn’t set out to become a runner. Twenty-two years ago, she was simply talked into a 10K by her then-boyfriend. It was hot, grueling, and uncomfortable—so much so that she crossed the finish line certain she’d never race again.

But that single race sparked something unexpected.

What began as reluctance turned into a lifelong passion. Annie fell in love with running—not just the races, but the lessons within them. Over the years, she completed countless events, including an incredible streak of 15 consecutive Boston Marathons, finishing her most recent in 2025. Running became her greatest teacher, showing her how to endure discomfort, embrace challenge, and find joy in the quiet, everyday moments.

Then, in November 2024, Annie faced her greatest test. She suffered cardiac arrest caused by a SCAD heart attack. Doctors warned her family that she might not survive. When she woke from a coma and took her first steps in recovery, Annie made a powerful decision: if she could walk and her doctors gave her the green light, she would return to the start —and finish—of the Boston Marathon one more time.

Drawing on decades of resilience, she did exactly that.

Annie’s journey is a testament to strength, determination, and the transformative power of sport. While she may be stepping away from marathons, her connection to running remains unshakable.

This October, Annie brings that same spirit to the Boston 10K for Women—continuing to inspire others with every step she takes.
