I started running in 1976 to get into better shape for downhill skiing. I ran a mile or two, but got caught up in the running boom following the ’76 Olympics. Tommy Leonard at the Elliot Lounge tried to get me to run Falmouth in 1977, but I told him I couldn’t run 7 miles. However, the idea was planted, and when an all-women’s 10k was announced for that fall, I started to run more. I ran 3 miles twice a day, so I figured I could finish and not be last. I wasn’t last and enjoyed the camaraderie. Shortly after, I joined Greater Boston Track Club, and the rest is history. Due to injuries, I can no longer run but I still participate, walking in the back of the pack. I look forward to another women’s 10k this year!
