I started going to a fitness studio called A Healthy Balance in Quincy, MA five years ago. It was the incredible group of women that sparked my curiosity, and eventually a love for running. Because of them I have run countless road races, a half dozen half-marathons, and I crossed the finish line of the Boston Marathon in 2015 and ran directly into my best friend’s arms.
I lost over 65 pounds, and I kept the majority of it off…. until I got pregnant. Despite running and staying active my entire pregnancy, I gained quite a bit back, and then even more during some tough months of PPD after giving birth to my first child last Christmas. It’s a difficult road back, but I’ve done it before and I know I can do it again.
The race this year is about reclaiming my identity as a runner, not just a mother. I’ve set a pretty decent time goal this year, and I’ll be running with several of my friends from AHB.
