I like plenty of sports (swimming, softball, squash, skiing, ice skating, etc.), but running was not something I did. Seven years ago I was living in Florida; I turned 50, I had put on a few pounds (I was thin all my life), and I realized I was not as active. So I started with running a half mile on the treadmill after strength training 3x a week. I quickly moved to 1 mile. A few months later I started running 2+ miles (loop around my subdivision). Then I completed my first 5K. Three years ago I moved to Boston and have not slowed down. I try to run between 4 and 8 miles at least once a week. I like to challenge myself, I try to complete two 10Ks per year (last 3 years) and this year completed my first half marathon (Maine Coast). I am always amazed at the people who come out to support us for this race and the energy and spirit of the volunteers. We would not be able to do this without their support.
